Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL, is a protocol employed to encrypt the information exchanged between a server and its users. The practical application of using an SSL is to preserve the info that site visitors submit on your site - a login page, a payment page if you run an Internet store, etc. Any information they enter in any box on the Internet site will be submitted securely to the server, so their login or payment details shall be protected from being accessed by unauthorized people. Typically, an SSL certificate requires a dedicated IP address to be installed, meaning that the overall cost for your online presence shall be higher. While this might not exactly be a problem for a larger company, it may matter for a non-profit organization or a small online store which does not generate big income if additional money should be spent. That's the reason why we have taken advantage of an extension known as Server Name Indication (SNI) and we've made it possible to use a shared server IP address to install an SSL certificate.
Shared SSL IP in Web Hosting
You shall be able to use this option with all our web hosting plans and with any SSL certificate issued from any dealer. If you choose to use an SSL from our company, everything will be arrange automatically and you'll not need to do anything after you buy and approve the certificate. The SSL order wizard will permit you to choose a shared IP to be used and the SSL to be installed by our system, so using this feature requires a maximum of 2 additional clicks after you fill the necessary info for the certificate. The appropriate operation of the SSL shall not be influenced in any way and any details that site visitors submit on your website will be encrypted and secured in the same exact way. The one big difference from using a dedicated address is that http:// shall not open your site, but it is extremely unlikely that anybody will ever attempt to access it that way instead of typing your domain inside the web browser URL bar.
Shared SSL IP in Semi-dedicated Servers
You can use a shared IP address for an SSL purchased through us or through any other vendor with any of our semi-dedicated servers. The setup is very easy and if you acquire the certificate from our company, you could also benefit from our SSL wizard where with simply several clicks you can choose the SSL to be installed automatically for the selected domain or subdomain on the shared IP that is configured to be used for this purpose. This option shall save you time and work as you won't need to do anything after you approve the SSL through e mail, not mentioning the money you will save for the IP on a monthly basis. Your site will be secured and any client will feel certain that their information shall be protected as using a shared IP address doesn't influence the adequate performance of the certificate and the sole difference from using a dedicated one is that the IP cannot be used as a URL to access your Internet site.
